Legislative Operations Training for Congressional Staff



The Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) and the Government Affairs Institute at Georgetown University (GAI) are pleased to announce that registration is open for our joint two-day training on Legislative Operations for Congressional Staff. CMF and GAI have more than 70 years of combined experience explaining how Congress really works to the public, Executive Branch employees, and the private sector. The course is designed for current legislative staff who want to deepen their skill sets or move into management. It is also ideal for government relations professionals hoping to transition to a Hill position. Instructors will discuss:

  • Developing floor vote recommendations, conducting legislative research, writing briefing memos, answering constituent mail, and performing other basic legislative functions;
  • Working with executive agencies, advocacy organizations, and other outside groups to accomplish the Member’s goals;
  • Managing staff and managing your managers;
  • Demystifying the Rules and Appropriations Committees and staffing the Member’s committee assignments
