Congressional Briefing for Presidential Management Fellows
This 5-day course presents a comprehensive overview of congressional operations and provides Presidential Management Fellows (PMFs) with a better understanding of how the legislative branch functions – essential knowledge for any federal official who aspires to a leadership position in their agency. The course explains how Congress is organized, the key players and their roles, how the legislative process really works, and how Congress directly affects the daily operations of every department and agency in the Executive Branch.
Participants will hear from and ask questions of congressional staff, academic observers, interest group representatives, news media representatives, and even Members of Congress. This course is also a great opportunity for PMFs to engage and network with their colleagues.
As part of the program, participants will also attend committee hearings and/or observe floor action when Congress is in session.
Topics include:
Leadership and organization in Congress
Key stages in the authorization process
The budget and appropriations process
The role of committees and committee hearings
The roles and perspectives of personal and committee staff
This was a great experience and so valuable for members of the executive branch agencies. I am inspired to learn more and hope to attend future trainings with GAI.
This has been one of the best trainings I've been to as a PMF - very well paced and very informative
Loved it! This was a great week and I really enjoyed participating. Appreciated how willing everyone was to answer questions no matter how basic they were.
