Dear Friends,

In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastating toll on the southeastern US, I want to first express my hope that all of you and your loved ones are out of harm’s way. The damage is hard to fathom. As federal resources continue to surge toward areas in need, many members of Congress have expressed support for additional assistance. There is a possibility that Congress may need to return to session in order to approve emergency aid, but at the moment FEMA has signaled confidence it can meet short-term needs.

In the meantime, members have returned to their states and districts in “candidate” mode for the final sprint to Election Day. With changes in majority quite possible in both the House and Senate, there are countless unknowns about how the 118th Congress will wind down. One certainty is that members will somehow need to find a way to fund the government once the current Continuing Resolution expires on December 20th. For anyone wondering how Congress manages to get itself into this jam year after year, Senior Fellow Josh Huder has some answers in his piece for our October newsletter.

Have a wonderful fall, and please be in touch if we can ever be of service.

All the best,

Kristin
