Dear Friends,

We’ve entered the home stretch of the first session of the 116th Congress. This is a time when we typically see the pace (and anxiety) tick up dramatically on must-pass legislation like the annual appropriations bills and the National Defense Authorization Act. Meanwhile, members are scrambling to try to hitch rides on these last-chance vehicles for all sorts of other legislative priorities. And of course this year, an enormous amount of energy and attention on the Hill is focused on something very atypical: the impeachment process.

This month, Senior Fellow Mark Harkins walks us through the latest on the FY2020 appropriations process and examines the possibility of another government shutdown. Be sure to also check out Senior Fellow Josh Huder, writing in the New York Times about the impeachment inquiry resolution approved by the House last week. Stay tuned for new podcasts coming soon, and please get in touch if there’s anything we can do to help your team develop a deeper understanding of Congress.

All the best,
