If our open-enrollment classes aren’t exactly what you need, or if you have a large group looking to attend training together, our tailored courses might be the best option for you. GAI has created hundreds of tailored classes for dozens of federal agencies and offices, and a wide range of non-governmental organizations.
Tailored courses are arranged by an agency or organization for a group of employees and provide an opportunity to focus on particular topics, legislative issues or congressional committees of interest. GAI’s Director will work with you to design training that meets your specific needs and develop a proposal. From there, a member of the Institute’s faculty will oversee the planning, design, direction and delivery of your course.
The length, content, location and format of these classes can all be customized to the needs and interests of your team, and they can be scheduled at almost any time during the year. Group size typically ranges from 25 to 50 for tailored courses conducted on Capitol Hill. We can also provide targeted, on-site training or online programs for groups of almost any size. Tailored courses can be designed as standalone courses or offered as a component of an agency’s leadership or executive development program.
One of our most popular offerings is our flagship Congressional Operations Seminar. We have customized this course for a wide range of federal agencies and can deliver it on Capitol Hill, at your location, or virtually. In addition to congressional staff and others with specific involvement in the department’s or agency’s programs, speakers include GAI’s own expert faculty, as well as a mix of academics, practitioners, members of the media, and representatives of interest groups. We also welcome involvement from the agency’s legislative affairs team in our planning and on the program. In most cases when Congress is in session, time is also provided for participants to observe congressional hearings and floor action.
We also offer tailored versions of our shorter courses, including our Workshops, Advanced Classes and New Congress class, and we can combine elements of multiple courses if desired. These classes can take place on Capitol Hill, on-site or online and generally range in length from a half-day to two days.
One of our most popular offerings is Understanding and Working With Congress, which is offered only as a tailored course. It is typically customized to include topics from both the Congressional Operations Seminar and our Working and Communicating With Congress course.
We also provide tailored versions of our Preparing and Delivering Congressional Testimony and Congressional Budget Justification workshops to dozens of federal agencies and offices. These classes are particularly well-suited to customization given the unique issues and circumstances that surround every agency’s relationship with Congress.
